A lot of Dmm users have a question >> how to emit particles from a dmm object
so .. in this simple tutorial i'll show you how to emit particles from a dmm object
and how to control the particles emission by texture .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWcvkIQYr6Q&feature=youtu.be

if u want to emit nparticles from DMM object just select the outputSurfaceShape from the DMM object that u create then choose Emit from Object

Simple work around...but I think what people are asking for is the ability to identify the fracturing faces and emit from them. Doing a simple texture rate across all of the faces kind of works but would not hold up for something higher end, like a feature FX driven destruction shots shown on a big screen.

Great Tutorial alsh3lan!

I put it on our FB page as well.

Emitting Maya Particles From Dmm Fracturing faces (quick tutorial)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjSUdIjQKlE

if u want to keep ur main uv set u can copy it to another uv set
from UV Texure Editor -->> polygons -->> copy UVs to UV Set
u can manipulate the new UV set and use it with emitter -->> Texure Emission Attributes -->> UV Set

One thing you might try is to assign a different texture to internal faces and use that to emit particles. You can do this by following the instructions for assigning inner face textures as opposed to a general surface texture. Assign the first texture to the entire object and then pick a single face and assign another texture to that. The second texture will become the inner surface texture which you can use to emit particles.

thanks Alshlan
That is a work around, appreciate it. Id still like to see a more controllable comprehensive workflow but this fills the gap for now.

Your tutorials are great. Thanks so much. I would have never figured this out on my own.

I used your tutorial for how to emit fluids. It was great and worked. Here's one of the samples I did. http://youtu.be/zAl41FEyVqk
Now I am following along with the first "Particle" video and at 7:12 mark the "file1" for the texture I don't understand where it came from our what it should look like.
Is it file with a white sqare? Can you post a sample so I can duplicate it? Many thanks for any insight.

EDIT: Nevermind. I understand now. It's just a small section on the top of the arch in the UV are painted white. 2 seconds in PSD. Thanks.

I tried this but this wont work. I think Alsh3lan is right.

I got it finally to work.

But how can i texture the inner shatterd parts again?

Thanks in advance.
