    DMM Animated Rest States?


    Anyone out there know if this DMM plugin, (as with FEM in houdini), can handle animated rest states?

    Most of the examples Ive seen have been more rigid/destruction based solves. Looks like there is a lot of potential for softbodies and mixing it up with character rigs.

    Here's a couple of examples of what Im trying to achieve in maya.

    Thanks for any thoughts on this!

    Yes, DMM can do that. We call it "material space animation". You change the morphology of the object kinematically and then allow the solver to move the nodes based on material properties.

    You can try this by making an object passive and then translating tet nodes. Change material properties and then make the object live. You should be able to get the results you are looking for.

    This is much easier using the DMM API directly. Our customers who use the API version of DMM have integrated everything into Houdini. We have some upcoming products that will allow anyone to do that without the full API version.

    I'll check on getting a tutorial posted that shows how to do this with the Maya plugin.

    We are revitalizing our website right now. This past month, DMM has been used in major shots in 5 big features - Amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Godzilla, Edge of Tomorrow and Maleficant.

    i see the material changes the geometry after you have animated it independently? its a bit confusing a simple scene would be very helpful, thanks Vik and congrats on the continued success DMM is very powerful.
