    Alembic motion blur with Mentalray

I have been using Dmm to smash a Ice wall, to keep the render scenes as light as possible I have been exporting the DMM geo to Alembic which works like a dream.....However when it comes to adding motion blur or creating a motion vector maya batch crashes.

I read the docs and it mentions adding inner faces when rendering a DMM scene, no joy with alembic........anyone else had this problem?

you MUST expose internal faces when you create your Alembic cache, otherwise its instant crash for mental ray and no motion blur in vRay.
it is on the object tab in the AE.

    Hi Mark

Thanks for the reply, I have double checked my settings when creating my DMM sim and expose inner faces. Motion blur works fine in the DMM scene.

Its in the Alembic scene where the problem lies, do you use Alembic + DMM?

i do use Alembic to cache out my DMM scenes. I also use Geo cache depending on what my needs are.

    here is my workflow.

    simulate my DMM scene..happy save..
expose the inner faces of the mesh id like to cache to alembic.
    cache to Alembic
should work with motion blur now.
    I dont have an issues

    .........

for a test try exposing all faces and select the output surface mesh and go to your final frame and export an obj.
now with the output surface mesh still selected geo cache your sim.
import the obj and attach cache and try your motion blur with that.
Im wondering if maybe your alembic build is older too?

    good luck
